If I've said something wrong, please correct me The FiiO E10k is a great choice if your budget is under $100. I should already have my 980 Ti installed but AusPost is useless and just leave cards instead of doing their job. I'm out of my element when it comes to this stuff, which is why I'm reaching out for suggestions here. What would you recommend for around relatively cheap to solve my problem? I've found a couple things like this, this and this. Sometimes an audio source it just really quiet and even at 100% volume it doesn't give the best listening experience. Since the onboard audio of the Z97 Krait doesn't seem to give me that I need something weather it be a DAC or sound card, whatever it is to output loud enough sound so I have proper control. The sound from my Z97X-SOC sure as fuck is* loud enough to deafen you after a while at 100%, which is not what I'll be doing I just want to be able to more precisely control the volume level. Yes I know listening to loud noise is bad, but the sound coming from the onboard audio is not loud enough. Remember, you shouldn't listen to anything that loud for extended period of time anyway. But the headphones should be loud enough at max volume just plugged into the motherboard. Unless there is something else you would like me to try what would be your sound card suggestions, my budget is flexible at around $50AUD but would prefer to spend less if possible.ĭon't get a sound card, buy an external amp/dac instead.

I'm not trying to deafen myself, the max volume just really isn't loud at all. So I figured I could just get a low end sound card that would give me either the same or better sound quality but also louder.

Like at 15% it is about as loud as my Z97 Krait, I assume the onboard audio on the Krait is just not as good since it is a lower tier motherboard, but still.Īlso if it matters I was using Win8.1 on the Asus and MSI motherboard and Win7 on the Gigabyte board and I do have all drivers installed correctly.

My previous motherboard was an Asus M5A99FX EVO and it was much louder than my current mobo, just now since I've got my Folding PC (Gigabyte Z97X-SOC) partially set up next to me I plugged my headphones in to it and it is significantly louder (quality was also much nicer, I guess that is expected from a $200 mobo though).
